This article explains adding Domains to WEDOS DNS via admin panel. To use you own interface or automate this process entirely, use WAPI instead.
In this article, you will learn:
WEDOS DNS
You can use WEDOS DNS in one of two modes:
- Primary stores DNS records directly on WEDOS DNS servers. This is the default mode for adding DNS records automatically. DNS in primary mode can only be managed via WEDOS customer admin panel ⧉, or via WAPI.
- Secondary retrieves DNS records from another authoritative DNS server via AXFR. This means that WEDOS DNS is only used to deliver records stored and managed elsewhere, usually on your own DNS server. DNS in secondary mode is default for WEDOS.zone.
For secondary domains to work properly, make sure to allow AXFR transfer from 46.28.104.64/27 with your authoritative DNS server provider.
Adding Domains to WEDOS DNS
WEDOS supports the following methods of adding a new domain to WEDOS DNS:
- Automatic. These are domains added to DNS by the system during service creation or setup. Read more about automatic creation here.
- Manual. Any domain that has no WEDOS DNS can be added manually. Read more about manual creation here.
- WAPI. Adding a domain to WEDOS DNS via WAPI offers all options available to adding it manually.
Adding Domains Automatically
For any WEDOS service associated with a domain (such as WEDOS.protection), the system typically creates primary WEDOS DNS for that domain, unless it already exists (primary or secondary). By default, new DNS records are also directed to that service.
Automatically created DNS is always primary. As such, it blocks creating secondary DNS for the same domain. If you’re using a service which automatically creates primary WEDOS DNS (such as the Protection service), make sure to add the domain in secondary mode first, if you also want to use Zone.
Adding Domains Manually
To add a domain to WEDOS DNS manually, follow these steps:
- Log into WEDOS Global admin panel ⧉.
- In the left menu, select ZONE, followed by Add Domain to DNS.
- Fill in the following information and agree with the terms and conditions.
- Name: enter the second-level domain name, such as
my-domain.tld. - Type: Choose secondary as the type.
- Primary IP: Enter the IP address of the authoritative DNS server.
- Name: enter the second-level domain name, such as
- Click the Add Domain button.

FAQ
What is secondary DNS good for?
You might want to use secondary DNS if you have your own DNS administration, but want to use WEDOS Zone for delivery. This includes Whitelabel DNS solutions. For more information, see Zone – Whitelabel.
